The Independent Appeals Committee consists of four (4) members. Where an appeal concerns online or blended learning provision, an Expert in Online Learning shall be appointed as an additional
member of the Committee.
Members of the Independent Appeals Committee are appointed for a term of three (3) years, renewable once. This term of appointment does not apply to substitute members, who shall be
appointed on an ad hoc basis, where required, including where a conflict of interest arises, in accordance with the provisions of the Appeals Policy and Procedure.
The Independent Appeals Committee and the pool of substitute Peer Reviewers and Experts comprise individuals with demonstrable knowledge and experience of appeals procedures and/or engagement
in national and international quality assurance activities, thereby supporting the informed, consistent and impartial consideration of appeals in accordance with recognised good practice.
Where an appeal concerns a programme, the Authority shall replace the Peer Reviewer serving on the Independent Appeals Committee with a Peer Reviewer who possesses appropriate expertise in the
relevant subject area.
